Desktop Google Chrome gets “OK Google” voice search support in US

May 26, 2020

Many of you who use Google Chrome beta on your computers have had access to this feature for a while, but it has just now come to the stable version of Google Chrome. Instead of searching by hitting a mic button and speaking, Chrome now listens for the “OK Google” command, much like Google Now on your Android device.

This feature can be enabled on the regular Chrome browser for anyone in the US and will be available both on the Google and the “New Tab” pages. All you have to do is say “OK Google” and start searching with your voice. It’s a pretty nifty addition, though I don’t see myself searching with my voice on a computer anytime soon.

If you want to turn it on, make sure your browser is updated, head to Google and hit the mic button in the search bar. If you’d like to turn it off, make sure it’s off in Settings > Advanced > Privacy.
